A Difficult Update From Animal Samaritans

It is with a heavy heart that we need to share an important update.

Due to an overwhelming number of surrender requests, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily pause our surrender list and stop accepting new surrender forms.

As a small foster-based rescue, our space is limited. Every cat and kitten in our care deserves the time, attention and support they need to recover, thrive and find their forever home. At present, we are operating on a strict one in, one out basis. Until more of our cats are adopted, we simply do not have the space to safely take in any more animals.

Many people do not realise that Animal Samaritans is run by a very small team, all of whom balance rescue work alongside jobs, families and other commitments. Every message, vet appointment, home check, adoption, fundraising activity and foster placement takes time to organise and manage.

While we are incredibly grateful for our foster homes and supporters, there comes a point where taking on more animals becomes impossible without affecting the level of care we can provide. The welfare of the cats already in our care must always come first.

This is not a decision we have made lightly. We know many people contact us because they are facing difficult circumstances and are desperately trying to help an animal in need. Turning people away is heartbreaking, but taking in more animals than we can properly care for would be unfair to everyone involved, especially the cats.

The single biggest thing that will help us create more rescue spaces is finding loving forever homes for the cats already in our care. Every adoption creates space for another cat in need.

We will continue to offer advice and guidance where we can, but for the foreseeable future we are unable to accept new surrender requests.

Thank you for your understanding, your kindness and your continued support. Together, we can continue making a difference for the cats who need us most.
